Healthcare.gov - Only sex enrollments so far

Through October 30, 2013, only 6 enrollments have occurred since the site went live on October 3, 2013.

Embarrassing. Also, if the pace of enrollments doesn't pick up dramatically - particularly among the "young and healthy" demographic, some insurance carriers are going to end up getting hammered.

I didn't know sex was offered via the website.

Dagnabbit! Beat me to it. CaliCare has a whole lot more than that. I guess it just goes to show that all those Red states don't give a crap about their citizens.

I saw a graph last night that showed RomneyCare had only signed up 100 people in it's first month. Personally, I don't see enrollment really enticing those young and healthy folks until 2015 when the fine jumps to $700. Too bad it isn't higher this first year but I guess the administration is acting in the interest of the people by phasing in the penalties.

Wha?

Your source says different.

Quote:
The website launched on a Tuesday. Publicly, the government said there were 4.7 million unique visits in the first 24 hours. But at a meeting Wednesday morning, the war room notes say "six enrollments have occurred so far."

They were with BlueCross BlueShield North Carolina and Kansas City, CareSource and Healthcare Service Corporation.

By Wednesday afternoon, enrollments were up to "approximately 100." By the end of Wednesday, the notes reflect "248 enrollments" nationwide.
So that's 248 through end of Oct.4. Doesn't say how many by Oct 30.

Pace is way slow, but not quite as dismal as you reported.

I suspect somebody lied to him, and he accepted without reading closely.

Yup, oops!

Still, as the story points out, 39000 enrollments a day are needed to meet a goal of 7 MM enrolled by the enrollment deadline. That's not some arbitrary number. Participating carriers need that premium to pay anticipated claims.
