Right, right, I see. Corporations keeping government in check, rather than the other way around? Interesting.

I think we've already been there, concerning the cause of wars. You do realize the beef that Japan had with China and the U.S. before WWII was mainly over trade, don't you?

I think Rick was simply observing what has been happening rather than advocating corporate control of government.

Don't forget Haliburton's role in Iraq, as well as the oil interests. Think of the corporate interests in the military industrial complex. Shoot, the crap that Wall Street was selling infected the world banking industry. I like Google, but I worry about a corporation large enough to thumb its nose at China. Already mentioned the gift that foreign corporations have been given by the Supremes. Is the smaller government that the right is demanding really going to be able to go toe to toe with these beasts? Of course not. The GOP cannot let a meddling government make things difficult for their patrons.

Regards,

D-ray

My take, (you asked! lol) is that the upper classes across the globe are working hand in hand to a degree not seen before.

Not exactly world government, but perhaps more sinister, backroom deals involving billions of people and trillions of dollars.

I seriously doubt it's a good thing.

Hmmmm, interesting. And probably not a good thing for us at the very least.

As dysfunctional as our government is, the "face" of world government is the U.N. and it is way more dysfunctional than we are. Nobody wants to go down that road.

As Zeke points out, it may happen if the world has to unite against a common enemy (from outer space), but short of that the sovereign nations of the world aren't anywhere close to doing this.

Hell, our best friends in the world barely like us. The New World Order (along with the resulting Pax Americana) that many predicted would evolve from us "winning" the cold war hasn't exactly worked out as planned.

The Pax Americana has actually been in place since the end of WW2 and has been a boon to mankind in many ways.

The second half of the 20th century, at least for the free world, was a golden age in many ways and will probably be looked at with envy as we move forward.

Other than for those killed in the many proxy wars between the US and the Soviets or Chinese or by repressive puppet governments propped up by the big actors.

The Kingston Trio nailed it;

The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles
Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch
And I don't like Anybody very much.

Or now Iraq and Afghanistan?

It's the sheer volume that was down. We really have been living in a stability few in the history of the world have ever seen.
