Echoes, NPR.
My usual Sunday night fare, followed by Hearts of Space.

Tomorrow night it is Prophets of Rage. Until last week, I hadn't heard of them, but a friend had tickets and it is not his wife's cup of tea. The group is a combination of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill. It is worth going to the show just because of the name of the tour: "Make America Rage Again." It should be a high volume evening.

Prophets of Rage was what I had hoped - high energy rock and hip hop and in your face politics. I had to buy the tour hat "Make America Rage Again." It is a complete take off of the Trump hat. I stopped at the convenience store on the way home, and the attendant told me that she was trying to avoid saying something rude when she thought I was wearing a Trump hat - so it's good for a laugh.

The disappointment of the evening was the opening act - Wakrat. It is a side project of the RATM bassist Tim Commerford. He should stay a side man. He is not prepared to front a band. The lyrics were extremely simplistic, as was the music. It was not even good punk.

You saw Tom Morello then. In 2008 I saw him join Bruce Springsteen on stage at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim. They did Ghost of Tom Joad together. It was the high point of the show.

I like his album World Wide Rebel Songs. He calls Scott Walker a motherfu*ker in one of the songs.

He was clearly the leader of the group. He gave a brief pep talk on fighting the good fight.

This will amaze you I guarantee.

Turns out Dolly Pardon is really a swamp blues singer--and a damn good one too.

I have had "John Barleycorn Must Die" sitting in my stacks for years - it was one of over a hundred albums I picked up when a record store shut down. I probably played it once and moved on to the rest of the harvest. Put it on tonight and wondered what I have been thinking all of these years. Wonderful album.

^^^ One of the true classics.

It is amazing to recall that there was a time when music of that creative and artistic level was widely popular.
