Institute of Higher Learning?
I saw this morning that Liberty University, Jerry Falwell's place, scheduled Glenn Beck as its commencement speaker. Higher learning, indeed.

Angela Davis must have been booked elsewhere.

I used to drive thru Lynchburg on the way home from Richmond...Talk about a "Stepford Wives" kind of place.....This was in the mid-late '70s, & even then, it had this slightly out of kilter, "Alternate Reality" feel to it...But it STILL beat the mind-numbing, 55-mph-or-we'll-KILL-you ride on I-64 & I-81...Virginia was SERIOUS about 55 mph...

Driving on I-81 nowadays is now a crap shoot as to who will get you first, the radar traps or the legions of trucks. At certain times, I-81 must be the must truckbound Interstate in the nation, particularly on the stretch between Front Royal and Staunton.

That would be fun to see, wouldn't it? Maybe she could take the stage after Reverend Wright (Obama's controversial preacher). It would be interesting to see the reaction of those freshly minted Liberty graduates.

Perhaps that's the point of a college degree.
To learn how to be subjected to a mountain of bullshit without pulling a knife.

What I learned in college was "why use a knife when you have a gun?"

The best I remember, that was taught in Reality 101 at the School of Hard Knocks.

Pretty much that way, too, back in the day. The cops didn't bother the trucks unless they were REALLY "Ballin' the Jack", but let an out of state 4-wheeler go 60 ? Omigawd...You'd a-thunk the poor schnook had blowed up Rob't E. Lee's home...

Spent a week helping set up some robotic automation at a PVC pipe plant in Lynchburg back in the mid-nineties. The place just felt weird. You're right, just like "Stepford". The plant was a mess, I slipped in some hydraulic oil and asked the lead mechanic, "Why don't you have someone clean this up? Somebody is gonna slip and bust their ass in it."---You'd think I had stabbed him in the ears with an icepick. The next thing I know I'm sitting in their maintenance office apologizing for using the word "ass".
