The standard of living has improved but have things really changed all that much since colonial days? The northern mill workers were not much better off than the southern sharecroppers and the only real difference between them and the slaves it that the former were "freemen".

The millowners and plantation owners have been replaced with a new lot but but it is still like mushroom management - keep everyone in the dark and feed them lots of horse manure. With all the rage for body piercing it is a wonder people are not sporting rings in thier noses.

Until the basic nature of humans change, the human condition will not. We'll just drive around in better looking automobiles.

Say Rob, will you feed me crackers and let me sit on our shoulder, if I'm willing to be your parrot?

Chas

PS: How many INTENTIONAL body piercings and tattoos do you sport? Won't take much to beat me.

I... like others don't see Capitalism as a problem. The other organization may see your remark as a problem. The alternative to Capitalism (socialism) IS a problem for our country IMHO.

Capitalism is the natural order of things. It makes the big wheel go around.

Why would anyone work their ass off for something that someone else will simply come along and take from them? I don't mind helping a slob out, as long as it's of my own accord.

No that is not the alternative.

Let me be more clear, unbridled capitalism is bad for you and me.
We enjoy the quality of life we have today because of the mix of capitalism and government control we enjoy. Further, government has propelled capitalism through the introduction of the most socialistic of all policies the income tax.
They have saved capitalism with this socialized bank bail out and the banks (capitalists) are not giving back. Capitalists are the ones that currently have in place a death panel (as it were) as bonus is paid to find ways to not cover your health care when you need it.

Capitalism has it's place, but so does social responsibility. And you and I benefit more from social responsibility than we do from capitalism if you look at how and why things work.
