I don't really care if people want to buy them. It's their money. But I'd like it if someone would make the equivalent of the '88 CRX but with all the hybrid mpg. It should be able to get 80 mpg or more I would think. Where is that car?
Its in my barn, I call it a lawn mower

Instead of sending all our money to toyko, we should build our own electric
cars. Anyone drawing a check below 67 years old would have to actually set
an alarm and bring their sorry ass to work every day. We are already paying
them. Why should we pay them to watch cable. Drawing an unemployment
check? fine be here at 6:30 sharp. You got a bum arm? well you still got one
good one get your ass back to work. You cant see? you can answer the
phone. You're too dumb, fine you clean the shitter.

I think you just described the Honda Insight.

Interesting article, I didn't realise the battery packs were as expensive as that. Fuel economy is one thing, but cost's don't end there. All the diagnostic equipment needed and the 'closed door' policy in which independent garages find they cannot get service information from the manufacturers makes the things cheap to run but once the warranty runs out, very expensive to maintain.

Decades ago, Ford U.K. spent millions working on 'lean burn' technology; engines designed to give up to 100mpg (Imperial Gallon) not just on the test bed but out on the road. Then the government made it mandatory for all new cars to be fitted with catalytic converters. The increased backpressure killed the design and that was that; end of story.

Can straight petrol or diesel engines be designed to get 100+ mpg out of a 5 door car with the kind of performance drivers would be happy with?

I retired at 73, that old enough for you? The effing Bush government made me take SS at 65 so I paid tax on it at the top rate, then they made me take the minimum out of my IRA at 70-1/2 so I paid top rate tax on that as well. I don't owe the government or anyone else the sweat off my cojones.

OH yeah, if I was dumb enough to bring home a Japanese car my wife would set fire to it.

We did build our own cars. Then GM crushed them.

IMHO, a motor vehicle is nothing more than a tool. It hauls you and what you need from Point A to Point B. My ideas of customizing one are ladder racks, trailer hitches, electronic brake controls, tool boxes, etc. No fuzzy dice, "bumper snickers", superchargers, trick wheels, or other useless crapola which doesn't serve a specific purpose.

Well, I did put a "I brake for tailgaters" bumper snicker on my old Dodge after the Pepsi truck rear ended it...my inner child got the best of me.

The less crap you have on one, the less crap you have to maintain/repair. You couldn't give me a hybrid.

Chas
I'm with ya on most of that, but I gots to have my tunes. If the car doesn't have a decent stereo and play CDRs I ain't interested. I like NPR, but it can't beat Voodoo Chile cranked up.

Yes!

First time I saw SRV, he was on Austin City Limits, which I viewed largely as a country/folk show. I was sitting there wondering who was this guy channeling Jimi. Years later, my son bought me a DVD set of SRV's two performances at Montreux. He was booed off of the stage in the first one. He was pouring his guts out through his guitar, but the crowd was there for some folk act. It was shocking. The next time he was there, he told the audience he was glad to be back, because his first trip there was his first time to be booed off of the stage and his first Grammy nomination.

Regards,

D-Ray
