There is a technical challenge to going full EV - the grid just isn't up to it.

We'll need to install more high tension wires. No problem, everyone loves new power lines, right?

The question is can the economy afford new cars?
The days of easy money is coming to an end.

A lot of jobs depend on this easy money.

Buying a new car often entails a 'mortgage'.

Going electric is evolutionary, I don't anticipate "fully electric" outside of localities the benefit directly from elimination of effluent pollution.

Looks like VW is thinking about bringing back the iconic Scout brand as an EV. Cool! I remember the International Harvester Scout back in the day. Apparently VW now owns the company that once was IH.

I could power an EV for a local commuter with no additional lines.

Can't the power lines already in place be upgraded?

the optimal is the installation of a different type of transmission line...High Voltage Direct Current.

Oh, I see. So couldn't these HVDC lines be run where the current (no pun intended) power lines run?

Maybe PIO1980 can correct me if I'm wrong, but here goes my understanding.

Marconi used Nicoli Tesla's circuitry to patent the crystal radio. Tesla was convinced that he could transmit high voltage DC electric potential just like (and along with) radio waves.

Tesla's goal was to electrify the entire world for free, or at least in manner that the electricity couldn't be meter with a direct charge to the the consumer.

Perhaps this is conspiracy theory nonsense, but I've heard that Westinghouse suppressed Tesla's research.
