Sick/Personal Days?

The subject of "sick" days came up on another thread recently. At my current employer we call them "personal" days. I get six per year.
Anyhow, I'll be on my second one tonight, as I seem to have contracted a nasty cold/cough. I never use them all up, as a matter of fact I had two left to "burn" last December, due to a "use or lose" policy.

Point is, I know there are those who abuse their "sick days", which ticks me off because they sure come in handy when you legitimately need them. But so many people just assume you are slacking off when you use one. Generally, people who use them up quickly, end up having further attendence issues later in the year.

Hey, Dave, be careful! It might be the Westboro flu! If you begin to get urges to make signs proclaiming "God Hates....." get to the doctor quick!

Seriously, hope you kick it in a hurry.

I don't know how it is at your company. I get three "personal" days to take care of personal business each year. I've used some of them each year, usually one or two. Great when you have a school visit to take care of for one of the kids or if there's something of that nature.

My "personal" days are neither vacation nor sick days, but I think they're intended to be used in the same way you use sick days. If you have a personal need, you can take a day. If not, don't abuse them. I only take a sick day if I'm sick or if I'm having an medical procedure of some kind. Took a sick day when I had a small skin cancer removed last year for instance.

One of the things I missed about Bell, we had no 'sick days' after a year if you were sick, you were sick but got paid. In fact I used to tell my staff if you have the flu stay home, don't come in here and infect all of us. After so many years you would get an extra week vacation, in the end I was getting six weeks a year.
