Today is a referendum

Hey All,

I've heard that about a million times on CNN today. This vote will be a referendum on Obama's policies. Okay, I'm good with that. And it could be at the end of the day, Republicans will have taken back both houses of Congress.

But what if they win the House, but Democrats hold the Senate? What kind of message would the voters have sent then? I know the Republicans will be out saying it's a clear rejection of everything Obama has done, but really, it's not is it? Wouldn't "we the People" be saying something like "we're with you, but crank it down a notch"?

Just wondering- after all the spin- what would that outcome mean? I happen to believe that's what we'll see today. But it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

Take care,

Ed

Only 37 of the 100 Senate seats are in play in this election. Unless more seats were in play, it would be pretty difficult to draw any conclusions about a "referendum" if one was looking only at the Senate races.

it does seem like the country has "no stick to it ness."

Obie was a definite call for change and again the election showed it wants change.

I think maybe as a country we need some serious introspective thought.

it's all about immediate gratification now a days.

I agree. This country wanders around aimlessly most of the time.

With all due respect to the voters if we actually had a free press the outcome might have been different. They do say that for a democracy (even a democratic republic) to work the electorate must be well informed. Given the state of the media here one can hardly say that the electorate was well informed, well misinformed would be more accurate.
