Death of a Forum

Has the constant, childish bickering finally killed this once great forum? If so, it's a damn shame.

We don't always agree, but I do enjoy your posts.

It is a part of the political landscape. It cannot be avoided. Sometimes it is prominent and then a call to chill is in order.

I try not to engage in empty, personal tit for tat.

If you hate it so much why are you still here?
My experience the three years I have been here is that your posts seem to decry the attitudes of others yet you still seem to enjoy the place. Strange.

I don't hate the forum, far from it. I learn something almost every day.

I do decry the attitudes, but not the differences of opinion. There is a big difference.

I just don't see why one person's opinion should bother another to the point of personal attacks and name calling.

(Strange? You don't know the half of it!!)

There are some opinions that are inherently "bothersome", don't you think? For instance, the "opinion" that all Christians/Jews/Muslims are evil and should, therefore, be killed. There are also deliberate lies. (We get a lot of those here.) Those are pretty annoying too.

At some point, the barrage of hateful opinions and lies reaches a certain tipping point (different for each of us). When that occurs some of us will sometimes respond in ways that are perhaps inappropriate.

I'll include myself here but I insist that the damage to the forum begins with the hateful opinions and the deceit, not the reaction to it. Certainly, there are inappropriate responses and, again, I'll identify myself as a culprit but don't misunderstand the real reasons for the "death of a forum".

Valid points, John. Thanks for your response.

I recognize that political discussions touch on nerves. What is happening to "our" country means a lot to each and every one of us or we wouldn't be here on PC. I would hope that we would be able to discuss things without losing the point of discussion to mud slinging.

In the end I hope this forum doesn't go away. There isn't anyone here that I wouldn't drink a beer with. (Right D-Ray?)

Aha, a man who recognizes the difference between a poke in the ribs and an insult.

I'd even drink a shot with everyone here - except the spammers. No toasts for them; they just get toasted.

Regards,

D-Ray
