My wife and I may make the trip down for the Friday and Saturday as she has family obligations on Sunday. An old college buddy lives in Emery, VA (20 miles up I-81 from Bristol) and he called yesterday morning to invite us down. If we go, we're likely going to bicycle on the Virginia Creeper trail on Friday and Saturday mornings and show up in Bristol about 4 pm for the evening's sets.

I really like both Bristol and Abingdon. Very nice towns with quite a bit going on considering their size. The Smithsonian-affiliated music museum in Bristol is great, as is the Benjamin Walls photo gallery and the Barter Theater in Abingdon is also very enjoyable. Also, Damascus, VA and the nearby Grayson Highlands State Park (and Mt. Rogers) are awesome. A great part of the country.

Just got back from Bristol. We bicycled each of the two 17-mile halves of the Virginia Creeper Trail on Friday and Saturday mornings before heading for the fest. Both the fest and the Virginia Creeper Trail are pretty close to bucket list items IMO. We probably saw 15-20 acts over 2 days at the fest and I was most impressed with Billy Strings and Love Canon. Also enjoyed Colter Wall, Ray Wiley Hubbard, Jerry Douglas, The Cactus Blossoms, and American Aquarium, among others.

I was up in Bristol the week before the festival just knocking around and then completely forgot about it. Next year fer sure. Glad you made the creeper though. It's a cool ride.

Bristol is the town, I noticed, where the ATF ran their cigarette racket for years. See other thread.
