Just saw Rosanne Cash and her band (featuring husband John Leventhal) playing her entire new album (The River & the Thread) in the first set and another hour after that. I expected a good show and it was way better than good - one of the better shows I've seen recently. Excellent.

Rosanne Cash is an outspoken supporter and performer in the Americana Alternative Country Music movement. It's great music being created by fabulous performers of all ages and all nationalities. From the kids in the Carolina Chocolate Drops, The Lone Bellow, Avett Brothers to Cash, Emmylou Harris, and even Englishmen Billy Bragg and Richard Thompson.
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend the PBS special "Nashville 2.0: The Rise of Americana". I'm sure it will be rerun on PBS a number of times, if you can catch it, it's fabulous.

It's probably my current favorite genre, at least for contemporary music. I've really taken a liking to the female vocalists in the genre from Gillian Welch to Neko Case to Patty Griffin to Joy Williams (of The Civil Wars). I'm also big on English Folk, particularly Fairport Convention during the Sandy Denny years.

Sandy Denny. There's a sad English folk tale.

A great version of 'I can't stand the rain' on that one.
