Bernie Sanders: Any Supreme Court Nominee of Mine Must Pledge to Overturn Citizens
Go Bernie!
http://www.alternet.org/bernie-sande...s-united-video
Quote:
Most surprising of all was Sanders’ announcement that he would have, as President, a litmus test for his Supreme Court nominees, demanding they overturn Citizens United as a condition of their selection. Litmus tests are something from which politicians typically shy away and are largely seen as taboo. Obama rejected Litmus tests back in 2010 saying he would “follow the time-honored answer of presidents from both parties in saying that no single issue would determine his selection”.
It appears, however, from his embrace of the word “so************************m”, to rejecting SuperPACs to the use of Litmus tests, that Sanders plans on doing things a bit differently.

Any nominee who would pledge a particular vote on a future case would and should be disqualified.

I disagree.
"Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures."
Besides that what dos it matter.
All the right wing judges are Political hacks.
Why not have some on the left to balance things out?

This statement won't work to his advantage. He should have refrained from announcing it, regardless of what litmus test he would or wouldn't actually apply as president.

Oh, it offers campaigning advantages. There are those, like me, who are gratified by this declaration. Further, it allows him to sound strong on important principles, while those who 'temporize' when asked about such expectations sound in comparison wishy-washy.

Me too, I'm sick and tired of politicians and their weasel words.
