US historians sign brief to support Colorado’s removal of Trump from ballot
Twenty-five civil war and Reconstruction scholars support invoking 14th amendment to bar Trump from ballot over January 6
https://www.theguardian.com/law/2024...mp-from-ballot
Quote:
“For historians,” the group wrote, “contemporary evidence from the decision-makers who sponsored, backed, and voted for the 14th amendment [ratified in 1868] is most probative. Analysis of this evidence demonstrates that decision-makers crafted section three to cover the president and to create an enduring check on insurrection, requiring no additional action from Congress.”

Going to be VERY hard for Thomas, Alito, and the other "textualists" to argue against the clear intent of the framers of the 14th. They'll try, but will have to twist themselves into pretzels - just as they did with Roe.

Allen H. Weisselberg, a longtime lieutenant to Donald J. Trump, is negotiating a deal with Manhattan prosecutors that would require him to plead guilty to perjury, people with knowledge of the matter said.
As part of the potential agreement with the Manhattan district attorney’s office, Mr. Weisselberg would have to admit that he lied on the witness stand in Mr. Trump’s recent civil fraud trial, the people said.
Mr. Weisselberg, the former chief financial officer at Mr. Trump’s family business, also would have to say that he lied under oath during in an interview with the New York attorney general’s office, which brought the civil fraud case.

When Donald Trump invited his longtime White House valet, Walt Nauta, to join his post-presidential political operation in August 2021, he was hiring a body man with serious baggage.
Weeks before, Nauta—a Navy enlistee stationed with the White House Presidential Support Detail since 2012—traded Washington, D.C., for Palm Beach, Navy officials had escorted him off White House grounds, reassigned him to a new post, and docked his White House security clearance in response to accusations of fraternization, adultery, harassment, and other inappropriate sexual conduct, including “revenge porn.”

Can these women in the service sue Nauta in a Civil court, especially since he is retired from the Navy? Roberta Kaplan may be quite interested.

Yet another depressing column by Ruth Marcus in WaPo. Here is the punch.
Quote:
Failing to try Trump before the election would be a terrible disservice to voters. They are entitled to know before casting their ballots whether they are choosing a felon, especially one guilty of election interference.

Yet his appeal for absolute immunity is being slow walked or stalled in the appeals court.
Slowpoke federal appeals court puts 2024 election in jeopardy
Quote:
It is approaching four weeks since a federal appeals court considered Donald Trump’s audacious claim that he should enjoy absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for his actions as president. Under ordinary circumstances, it can take months for appellate judges to produce a ruling. In the current case, this delay borders on unconscionable. It plays right into Trump’s hands.
Unconscionable is a strong word, but one that’s warranted here. Consider: It took just 18 days after oral argument for a different panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to produce a well-reasoned, 68-page opinion largely rejecting Trump’s challenge to the gag order issued against him by the trial judge. The issues of law posed by the immunity case are no more complex.
What’s going on? The immunity panel included two Biden appointees — Florence Pan and Michelle Childs — and a George H.W. Bush nominee, Karen Henderson. They appeared disposed to rule against Trump, but perhaps a concurring or even dissenting opinion is slowing things down. Your honors, the clock is ticking more loudly every day.

Problem is that we liberals do not threaten the justices life and limb like the MAGAts, not that we ever should, but where is the justice?

It shouldn't take a month much less longer to rule on this. Makes me think this court is taking their time in order not to appear biased against TFG.

Trump's 'fatuous' SCOTUS argument tantamount to admitting defeat: conservative ex-judge
https://www.rawstory.com/amp/michael...urt-2667175206
I’ve yet to see a valid argument for keeping this insurrectionist on the ballot. The language of the 14th is very clear, historians all say it was clearly intended for exactly this case, and there’s absolutely no conviction requirement. Case closed, dump the traitor from ALL ballots.
Yet, this corrupt court still will very likely find some way around doing the right thing, despite their support for the “original intent”, which is very clear to everyone.

Here is more, FBI screwing up a search (intentional ?) of Mar-a-Lago where a hidden closet was not searched because of a snafu. And squirreled away may be one of the most important documents about Russia which is of course is of utmost importance to TFG.
Another FBI screw-up?
Story reads more like a pass for Trump by the FBI doing the search. Will some heads toll? And this was not even reported by the media until now IIRC.
