There are times when the character has worn thin - particularly in interviews. I think so many of the bits Colbert has done have show significant insight and wit - and they would be effective with or without the character. There are certain thing he can't do without the character, though. I can't imagine him doing such a great job of exposing the ridiculous nature of super-pacs without the character.

But he is obviously such a talent that it would be a shame for him to be confined by a character that will surely grow stale. Overall, I think it is a good move.

Regards,

D-Ray

Rush Limbaugh -

“CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America. No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values. Now, it’s just wide out in the open. What this hire means is a redefinition of what is funny and a redefinition of what is comedy, and they’re blowing up the 11:30 format under the guise that the world is changing. And people don’t want the kind of comedy that Carson gave us, or even Letterman. They don’t want that anymore. It’s media planting a flag here, it’s maybe … it’s a declaration.”

Happy to see the corpulent one stroking out on Colbert's decision.

Will Colbert use the Ed Sullivan theater?
