Bitten By Governmental Over Reach!!!
I got one of those traffic cam tickets from Riverside curtesy of Redflex.
I received the images but not the actual courtesy notice from the Riverside courthouse with the fine.
I did not know I did it. From what it appears I did a California roll onto the 91 Westbound freeway coming off of Tyler in downtown Riverside.
It will be about $500 bucks I imagine plus the usual traffic school.
Should I go to the court and fight it? If the guy who reviewed the camera footage does not show up will that help me?

Damn. That's high. Here it's $40 and still an outrage. BTW, it is administered locally by Lockheed Martin who gets a cut on every ticket.

There seems to be a big discrepancy between the coasts. I am assuming it is that high I have to wait for the actual fine. In a city near me the fine for going through a redlight at a busy intersection is $431...the fine is posted under the light itself.

Washington, DC had fines up to $400 for camera-generated tickets, but a backlash from the public reduced it significantly. Here in Montgomery County, MD, it has been $40 from the start.

This is California. Don't even think about tossing something out of a window. We had red light cams here in San Diego, but the one good thing Filner did was remove the cameras. I have not had a ticket since 1991, but never liked the cameras. It seemed like people that were aware of them would actually speed up when approaching the intersection.

A lot of people don't. People love the cams because they think they will increase safety; however, the real use is to generate revenue. Like Finn mentioned, a partnership with the cam maker with whom they share the windfall. It's an easy sell to cash strapped municipalities. Oh, and then, every damn agency has their hands in the pie. Here's another area where I'd like to have numbers and statistics to measure the efficacy of the cameras.

I'm wondering Finn, no offense, but is that where all the bureaucrats live?
