Are white communities in St Louis county being targeted for traffic fines just as aggressively?
That was the point of the article.

You see it is not about who violates a traffic ordinance. It is about who gets pulled over and who does not.

Here in Murrieta older cars are targeted because they tend to have those "fix it" discrepancies (like a burned out license plate lamp)....and the drivers of older cars tend to be Latino. Will they pull over the old white guy driving Lexus or Cadillac with the same issue? Hard to tell. You have to remember poorer people cannot fix their cars as easily as wealthier ones, and can become easy targets for law enforcement.

I've got a rough 88 Dodge 3/4 ton 4WD which is used for going to the dump, or other applications which would ruin a good vehicle. Licensed 18K...which in Missouri means you don't get a rear license plate.

As I told my buddy, local prosecuting attorney for 30 yrs, we need to ditch this SOB because it has "throw my ass in jail" written all over it.

So we switched to my K3500 4WD, licensed 18K, still no rear license plate...but it looks respectable enough that the local police don't notice it after dark.

The Chevy looks legal. The Dodge looks like it hasn't been legal for years.

Perception trumps reality every time.

Just don't make the mistake of thinking "our reality" = reality. It never does.

Reality exists through our perceptions.

Reality is way over rated. Praise the lord and pass the Kool-Aid...

Oh, I'm pretty sure it exists independently of our perceptions.

I also think that no matter how much we perceive, we always miss even more.
