I think by the time Reagan's 2nd term was winding down, some deterioration was starting to show. He'd be nodding off in meetings and clearly not as sharp as he had been earlier in the 2nd term.

It depends. There are people in their 90's who have plenty of clarity and who, I'm sure, could do the job. There are people in their 30's...maybe even in their 20's. Bill Clinton did a good job...and he was a repressed horny teenager most of the time. It's not only mental capacity, just as it's not only maturity. I don't think anybody would ever accuse Harry Truman of being a genius. History has shown him to have probably been as good as anybody who held the office though.

I'd vote for Rob. I might not agree with you all the time but I'd LOVE to hear a Pres speak their mind plainly.

When I was a boy and heard my parents and grandparents argue about candidates, age was never mentioned. Rather it was who was honest, who had integrity, who would do what he said he would.

I don't think the did what they said anymore back then than they do now. So I guess age might be a better measuring stick for a candidate.

We have had old men, young men, and a black president too. None of it has worked. How about we try something different. A young black woman.

Anyone have opinions on Ms. Rice for president?

While I think she's very smart and has high integrity, she was unable to stand up to Rumsfeld, Cheney and the rest of the NeoCon cabal when she was National Security Advisor. Plus, the GOP (and Washington in general) has gone so far off the rails that I doubt she's want any part of it.

Yeah, darn right! She'd be great!

...... but Susan Rice isn't black.

I think Condoleezza Rice was seriously out of her depth as National Security Adviser and, honestly, not much better at the UN. I don't think she has the gravitas or the toughness for the job.

I'd vote for Rice. In red sauce over pork chops

She's classy smart and blamed for a lot. Even more than Albright or Hillary, yes because she's black, I loved the idea of bigoted tinpot dictators having to deal with her as SoS As Pres it would be even better.

She's probably not enough of a hawk for the NeoCons and too much of a hawk for libertarians. That, and the GOP isn't close to ready to nominate someone who is both black and female. Ain't gonna happen, Pete.

I think, as with Colin Powell, she's probably had all this sort of fun she could stand as a token stooge for those not worthy of either of them.
