30 years ago Elisabeth Schwarzkopf had been teaching in master class lessons at the Freiburg University and I was happy that I could join some of her public lessons. Remarkable Grande Dame.
I would like to recommend everybody to listen to the late Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, IMHO the most beautiful bariton voice ever, listen to him singing German Lieder.

A wondrous experience I am sure!
And yes, I have had the pleasure of listening to the voice of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, I have a 1957 mono LP of him, entitled "Hugo Wolf Lieder." Picked it up at a thrift store without knowing what it was. Wonderful finds like this are why I do that!

Actually, I do generalize, as do all others. There is no other way to talk about nations of tens or hundreds of millions of people. Generally speaking, I think most people think that Americans, as a whole, are different than Saudis who are different than Japanese who are different from the Turks who are different from the Germans....
If it weren't so, the following joke wouldn't be funny:
Heaven Is Where:
The French are the chefs
The Italians are the lovers
The British are the police
The Germans are the mechanics
And the Swiss make everything run on time
Hell is Where:
The British are the chefs
The Swiss are the lovers
The French are the mechanics
The Italians make everything run on time
And the Germans are the police

Vivat Predjudices!
I have seen that joke a zillion times, it is funny and stupid.
Amercians are fat and uneducated and arrogant. And they are lacking in taste - see this (Pseudo Rolls) Chevrolet Monza Cloud.
Vivat Predjudices!

She is unforgettable.
Fischer-Dieskau is still the most famous and best Hugo Wolf vocalist. But he is also a brilliant interpreter of the Bach solo cantatas BWV 56 and BWV 82 and of countless Bach arias. Look into this face! He was such a great artiist but he always remained very very modest and kind. He was a fantastic ambassador of the new post war Germany already around 1950. Unfortunately he passed away some years ago...

Barbara Waters asked Arnold Schwarzenegger which great composer would he would choose be. The Terminator responded:
"I'll be Bach."
Wagner sounds pretty good in German. Beethoven's Ninth is nice too.

Beethoven's Ninth is popular globally. There is the fairytale (perhaps it is even true) that the boss of Sony, a big fan of this symphony once said, when the CD was developed in the late seventies, a CD has to provide enough space for the Ninth, some 74 minutes.
Ooooops...what was the original topic of this thread?
Sorry Pukka...
