Will the GOP Get Away With Its Economic Sabotage?
This strategy of theirs has been pretty damned obvious ever since Obama took office.

Quote:
Republicans smell an election opportunity – but only if they can keep the economy down, jobs down and wages down. Most recently to keep people and the economy miserable they filibustered long-term unemployment assistance, and are working to cut back from the meager 26 weeks of assistance the states offer.
The New York Times explains in "States Cutting Weeks of Aid to the Jobless," "[L]ast July, North Carolina sharply cut its unemployment program, reducing the maximum number of weeks of benefits to 20 from 73 and reducing the maximum weekly benefit as well."
When North Carolina did this, a huge number of people just gave up looking for work and disappeared from the workforce. This made it look like the unemployment rate went down because only people who are actively looking are counted in the statistics. But what actually occurred was an increased need for food stamps and other aid. This, of course, doesn't save the government money because, instead of paying unemployment, they are paying for this assistance.
As Republicans explain it, their idea is that people getting unemployment assistance are too "comfortable." So the have to force these lazy, comfortable people into conditions that are so bad they will take any nasty, low-wage, humiliating, dangerous job. Of course, this means they will work for even less than the people who are already in such jobs. Meanwhile, the reality is that there is only one job for every three people looking for work.
Here is the thing: Obviously cutting this assistance drags down the surrounding economy as even more people can't pay their mortgage or rent or buy shoes, gas, clothes of even enough food. So local stores have to cut back, causing even more unemployment. Billions are taken out of the economy, things get worse... And now more "red" states are working on doing the same thing.

Please do explain.
It would be nice to see a post with thought from you. So far I have seen nothing from you other than two sentences. All your post are copy past or quoting others, again with little to say on the subject.

It seems pretty clear to me what the OP's view is, both by virtue of the thread title and the cited opinion piece. What's not to understand?

This is what happens when politics trumps well being of the country. Strategically probably a good game since those that are affected are typically low on information.
Here is a strategy on killing ObamaCare from a Faux column. Get this, authored by: Wayne Allyn Root is capitalist evangelist, entrepreneur, and Libertarian-conservative Republican. He is a former Libertarian vice presidential nominee.

I wouldn't put it past the GOP to deliberately undermine the economy for the sake of short term political gain. I wouldn't put it past the Democrats either if the shoe was on the other foot. I'm not sure, however, that what we have here is deliberate economic sabotage, as opposed to fealty to their failed economic ideology (trickle down).

This article is painfully accurate. The idea, as ZeroJunk put it, is that if we, :"....yank the rug..." out from underneath them, they'll go to work. History proves that if you yank the rug out from under them in an economy were there is no work, they will;
A). Abandon the community and go elsewhere, leaving vacuous blight behind them. (This is what most people do.)
B). Go deeper into the social safety net, for life, instead of off of it. (This is what some people do.)
Or;
C). Turn to crime. (This is what all too many people do, unfortunately. And, believe me, it's shocking to see who does this. It might be folks you never thought would resort to crime. But, poverty and desperation are powerful motivators. That's one thing the GOP has right. It just doesn't motivate many people to do what THEY think most people will do.)
D). Some will try to do the entrepreneurial thing. A few might even succeed. But, as one man told me many years ago; "How in the fuck to you create a product or service to market, when NOBODY has any fuckin' money?!"
Anyone who has lived in the Rust Belt should know this. When "good" jobs disappear, then unemployment disappears.......people disappear, leaving nothing but abandoned homes and boarded up businesses.
And, every year our nation fills up with more cities and towns that look like this, declining into ruin waiting for the next Henry Ford.
