First Trump has this to say before his campaign stop in WVa.
Quote:
“I must tell you that Paul Manafort’s a good man,” Trump said. “Doesn’t involve me, but I still feel, you know, it’s a very sad thing that happened. This has nothing to do with Russian collusion. . . . This is a witch hunt that ends in disgrace.”
Witch hunt had a very good day today.
Then this from a presidential historian.
Quote:
“It’s really the giant beginning of the unraveling of the Trump presidency. You’re now having a situation where Donald Trump seems to have behaved in a felonious fashion,” said Douglas Brinkley, a presidential historian. “It may make some Republicans not want to go out and vote in November because of the stench emanating from the Trump White House. . . . I think the word ‘impeachment’ is back in play.”
Trump a convicted felon has a nice ring to it, a fitting end.

Lone holdout on Manafort jury blocked conviction on all counts, juror says

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world...28d_story.html

Yep, just as I figured, one implacable Whell-like moron prevented unanimous guilty on those 10 counts. Could have been worse, at least the reasonable jurors were able to convince the idiot on eight counts. This makes it more likely prosecutors will try again on those ten.

Manafort in talks with prosecutors about possible plea, according to people familiar with the discussions

Quote:
Days before in-person jury ****selection is set to begin in his second trial, President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort is in talks with the special counsel’s office about a possible plea deal, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions.

The people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to ****describe the conversations, cautioned that the negotiations may not result in a deal with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, who is prosecuting Manafort for alleged money laundering and lobbying violations.
Quite a surprising turn of events from the strong stance Manafort took earlier. Perhaps one guilty verdict is enough or is not sure if he will get pardoned. Deal or No Deal? Seems the judge in the DC trial has postponed the pretrial hearing by a couple days, perhaps to accommodate the negotiations.

I expect Trump to once again go ballistic after having praised Manafort over the past several months.

So what is the count up to now on this witch hunt?

"'With Paul Manafort’s new plea deal Friday, special counsel Robert Mueller’s team has now indicted or gotten guilty pleas from 32 people and three companies — that we know of.""

Here is something that is very very interesting and perhaps no that well known.

A Timeline of Paul Manafort’s Relationship with Donald Trump

Quote:
The depth of their relationship pre-2016 isn’t well-known, but it’s clear Trump and Manafort have been operating in close circles for decades. In 1980, Manafort, Charles Black, and Roger Stone (all Ronald Reagan campaign officials) opened a lobbying shop in Washington, D.C. One of their very first clients: Donald Trump, who employed the lobbying firm of Black, Manafort & Stone through the early 1990s.

Trump-proof aspects of Manafort deal rankle lawyers
Robert Mueller seems to have built in safeguards to discourage the president from pardoning Manafort.

Mueller knows what he’s doing. Unlike Donny and his idiot minions.
