Our Drug Warriors

This is becoming far too common:

Quote:
Habersham County, Georgia, Sheriff Joey Terrell feels bad that his deputies horribly burned a toddler by tossing a "distraction device" (a.k.a. a "flash bang" grenade) into the playpen where he was sleeping during a drug raid on Wednesday morning. "The baby didn't deserve this," Terrell concedes in an interview with AccessNorthGa.com. "The family didn't deserve this. This family was displaced from another home down here and apparently just moved in."

This fucker has the gall to place the blame on the drug dealers that once lived there, rather than the incompetence of his deputies. I hope there is a big setllement and he's booted for his cavalier arrogance.

Here's a picture of the toddler before having a flash-band tossed into his crib:

Yeah, I don't buy the '...if there wasn't any drug dealing going on, the child never would have been injured.' stance. That's a dodge and a piss poor one at that. There is no excuse for such brutal, unprofessional behavior.

However, I also don't believe this one incident or even a dozen incidents per year, is grounds to paint the DEA, or the entire law enforcement community for that matter, as a "terrorist" organization, either. Situations do, all to often get out of hand, unfortunately.

That being said, in case you haven't noticed, the "War on Drugs" is coming up against public resistance. Mainly through the push for legalization of at least some of the drugs involved.

It seems an all too common occurance today where some innocent bystander gets injured or killed becaus someone was not really giving their occupation their full atention.

I don't know about everyone else but I find a level of barely suppresed anger in people. It does not take very much to set them off. As a result we stay home as much as possible and shut the world out.

Ironic that a 'stoke anger' piece like this shows up in "Reason" magazine....

In NYC a policeman sees a youth with weed and chases him. The youngster
flees into his home. The policeman forces his way into the home and shoots
him. The officer claims he had to shoot because the youth was reaching for
something in his waist.

Security camera shows the policeman kicking in the door.
