NAS vs cloud storage?

Is anybody here using NAS instead of one of the cloud storage providers? I've been using a WD My Cloud device for some years now, never utilized iCloud or Google Drive, Dropbox or any of the others.

Western Digital recently chsnged their OS and those of us with older equipment have lost remote access, but retain home network access. But I really like having access to the whole music library wherever I go.

So...anybody use a multi-bay NAS or a NAS adapter that you can plug an outboard HDD or SSD into. How's that working for you?

A little experience with early generation of these when into network admin in 90's. Used as a utility in projects involving moving data around. Did what I wanted cheaply, no fuss. Admin was stupid easy. Of course, in those days cloud storage didn't really exist.

Truth is I've never trusted cloud storage. May not be logical, but I don't.

One of the kids will have to answer that one for you.

All my music is stored on disc and I'm still streaming FM.

Me either. And I just generally object to paying somebody to store my shit...be it stuff we accumulated from the Goodwill...or data.
