For what's it's worth...I have No intention for being pulled back into this forum.

If I allow that to happen, I'll be once again focusing on my "cyber" life as opposed to my "real" one.

Governor Hollings (D.) is responsible for the murders because it was he who raised the flag over the statehouse.

While the Confederate flag wasn't responsible, to our fellow black citizens it remains a symbol of virulent and violent racism directed at them. They have every reason to demand that we, as a civilized society, remove it from the public square. It was erected in the public square in 1961 in South Carolina as a protest against civil rights initiatives at that time and has nothing to do with heritage, other than as a symbol of South Carolina violent racist past.

Gov. Fritz Hollings is probably who you're thinking of. While it's true that the flag was first flown on the State House dome during his time as governor, I can't find any indication that it was his idea or that he even supported it.

Or maybe you're thinking of just Democrats but don't forget we're talking about 1962, at the height of the civil rights struggle and the year before the passage of the Civil Rights Act. Those Democrats (Dixiecrats) in the South Carolina legislature would all be Republicans soon.

Sen. Fritz Hollings, on the other hand, remained a Democrat and, like Sen. Robert Byrd, was a strong voice for equal rights and social justice, even though it cost him back home.

If so, let's at least have a public hanging in front of their capital and in direct view of the confederate flag so that Dylan Storm Roof does not feel he is to die in vain. Heck he could even salute the flag while going down.
