Netanyahu has explicitly defended the destruction in Gaza by citing US bombing of axis cities in WWII. 'You killed civilians.' But no, the indiscriminate targeting of civilians was wrong, even when we were fighting the very powerful militaries of fascist nations, not stateless urban guerrillas trapped in an ethnic enclave. Afaik, it was suspected if not known that plans were argot for an operation like this, but were discounted as being to complex for Hamas to pull off. Apparently, some folks took the warnings at face value and acted on them.
