Interwebs

Sometimes (just sometimes) I think it would make for a pleasant evening if we could all sit at a large table somewhere near the ocean with some good beer and couple of bottles (well, maybe a case) of wine and have these conversations.

Most of my employees are college kids - they are great kids, but know little and are sure they know everything - as I did at that age. No point talking to them.

Most of our friends are college professors - they are fine people, but get them together and they will not stray from whatever position they believe is the currently accepted one among the faculty (they all want tenure or to be chair of their respective departments). No fun.

About once a month I will stop by the pub down the street and strike up a conversation over a beer with whoever is on the next stool. Can be interesting, but nine times out of 10 the conversation veers towards sports (I don't care about deflated footballs), Obama (he's the antichrist and that's all there is to it and I should not argue), or stupid yankees (no use disagreeing - they all have weapons). One beer and I'm out.

This forum works better for me, I live in a state that elected Roy Moore it's chief justice.

Heck, maybe we should do a meet-up some weekend. I think Hillbilly's place would be a kind of central location for a lot of us....

I think it would be great fun. Prob. hard to do, but maybe start a "who is where" thread so people could post:

"hey, I'm in S.F. on business - if any of you losers want to meet at (location) after 5 for a beer, let me know."

I never go anywhere, either - I do have friends in Findlay and Mentor-on-the-Lake, though.

I do not want to sit around with a bunch of college professors. Been there, done that.

Although Dr. Burns, Kent State University and a graduate of the great University of Wisconsin, was one the greatest teachers ever. I did a colloquium with him in 1984 on Southern history. We discussed the Mind Of The South and other works by guys like C. Van Woodward, whose discussion of how progressivism in the South was sort of melded with nativism and xenophobia in the early 20th century was very prescient.

I want to say his name was Frank but I may be putting in the character from MASH. It was a long time ago.
