N. Korea Threatens Attack on South

"North Korea says it will take military action against South Korea if it participates in a U.S.-led effort to intercept ships suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction,"

What to do?

Torpedo the ship so no one will ever know what happened?

Unless the ship is known beyond doubt to be carrrying weapons, troops or whatever and refuses to stop, would you pull the trigger?

This little tyrant has been testing everyone. I think it's time that we spoke to him in his own language.
Sanctions and threats don't seem to sway him.

What do you suggest?

Go ahead with boarding ships we suspect and see if they attack the south?

Sorry I guess sarcasm does not work too well on the 'net.

They could try jamming all the marine frequencies, board the ship and if they do find WMDs take the crew off and sink the ship. In fact announcing such a measure ahead of time would stop any carrier for taking part in such a scheme. New ships are not cheap.

Sorry Merrylander, my problem. Jamming marine frequncies might work, but all it takes is one crewmember with a sat-phone............... Are you talking about WMD on the way into N.K. or on the way out?

I thought the Chinese were going to handle this problem? Also saw something that said to the effect that the Russians have their missile defense shield up, apparently they don't trust the little prick either.

Where's the UN when you need 'em, and that IS sarcasm,
Chas

supposedly, this action by NV could be used as an excuse by japan to acquire nuclear capability. china is very afraid of this. i also heard that obama cut defense spending for missile defense technology. i can't really understand russia's stance. aren't they the ones who sold the technology, and probably the uranium to korea?

i don't believe the question is what to do about this, it's what can we do about this. we can't really afford a war with korea, and our military is pretty well occupied in iraq and afghanistan. it does seem that the more we try to tell NK they can't have nukes, the more they push the envelope. i wonder what they would do if we just backed the fuck off. they really aren't that much of a threat to us directly anyway. from what i understand, their missiles have the range to reach alaska, but i'm pretty sure they understand such an attack would be their end, and we do have a missile defense system in alaska, as well as a naval force between us and them.

i think we need to mind our own business in this one. let the asians deal with this.

I would imagine that the threat is WMD on the way out of NK and not the other way round. Haven't they already tried to set up Syria with a nuke plant?

Now Pakistan and India are working on cruise missiles in addition to rocketry. Letting the Asian countries deal with NK is probably the best idea, but keep a trident class sub on standby.
