Afaik, the Crown ruled the Colonies, of which we were once. It of course was not the U. S. of A then.

Wonder how the patriots would have fared against the loyalists without arms in that revolution.

Dunno really, using non-conventional tactics against a predictable opponent certainly made a difference with what was available.
I think the 2nd was influenced by the Colonists' relationship with the Crown, not much worry about the Queen quartering troops in our homes without consent here nowadays.

The French made sure we were well armed.
How's it going up there in the PNW, Marc? Freaky weather.

'Without arms' you might have seen less of the violent, oppressive action characteristic of 'patriot' treatment of those unwilling to publicly embrace the revolution.

Me?
I did the best I could with a hypothetical, they did the best they could for a cause they passionately believed by whatever means necessary, "arms" notwithstanding.
Regardless, how does the intent of the 2nd apply today without advocating armed insurrection?

I am not quite sure why a 'well regulated militia' was taken by so many here to mean 'untrained' as that was the least thing that the framers of the Constitution had in mind, but then there is this language barrier I suppose.

Nope, Bob's post.
Armed insurrection is exactly what a population needs against a tyrannical government.
Notice that I did not say we need to rise up at the moment.

Same rule would apply here as with striking a king, not easy to accomplish against a standing army.
