And the result could be that the Democrat received more votes than Trump and Romney(?) combined but came up short of 270. If the house were to toss he election to their candidate, there would be blood in the streets.

I used to think there would be blood in the streets if the candidate that won the popular vote lost in the electoral college, but that didn't happen. So I'm sure the Republicans wouldn't hesitate to go this route if they got the chance.

Apparently the plan would look something like this. So it's not a real third party. It's just a way for the Republican establishment to use trickery to maintain power.

Mark Halperin: The simplest way that we can get Paul Singer and all of his friends to say to Ben Sasse, "Go campaign in Florida, Ohio, Virginia, and Colorado. Just win those four states." And if he wins those four states it's possible nobody gets 270 and Ben Sasse gets picked by the House.
