Interesting read. Can't wait to see how the GOPers start peeing all over it.

I never did understand what anyone saw in the '80s. To me it was a shit decade. My time in the Navy was good, but everything else about it sucked. I went home to Ohio in '86, only to discover the place looked like a bomb hit it. Everything shutting down and falling apart. So, I moved down here to Virginia to find it only marginally better. IIRC, unemployment at that time was still hovering around 7-8%. Worked a string of crappy, low wage jobs. Didn't start making any decent money until about '93-'94.

But, to listen to people refer to the '80s now, you'd think we had money raining from the skies.

Heck if I know what they're talking about.....

Good old Maryland, lived in Takoma Park for a number of years. Agnew and co. had a good old time with the milk doled out to the schoolkids IIRC.

"12. Was Joseph McCarthy A Hero?) Another idol of the Republican Party is Joseph McCarthy. Republicans are now rewriting school books to present McCarthy as a hero who did no wrong. In reality, where the rest of us live, Joseph McCarthy was nothing more than a witch hunter who accused innocent Americans of being communists. He had no real evidence that people were communists and he should have recognized that people have the right to be part of any political party they choose. He violated the Constitution and ignored the values of freedom that we hold dear.
Just like Republicans today."

This is one of my favorite points. All through the McCarthy era, the CPUSA operated out in the open, with an office in New York and another in the DC, the president of the American Communist Party, Gus Hall, even ran for POTUS four times......McCarthy never went after them......He was too busy harrassing black cleaning ladies and gay actors. The whole thing was a total joke.

The DOW may very well hit 13,000 next week, unemployment claims are still dropping.

On a more personal level, my 401ks have not only recovered but surpassed where they were just before the crash. My employer is busy adding production lines at my plant and buying up more businesses around the country.

What's up?

With interest rates as low as they are keeping cash in the bank makes no sense so I guess businesses are finally spending their profits.

Banks on the other hand keep their cash with the Fed and make good money that way.

Bernanke and his buddies need to pull their heads out and raise the rates. We seasoned citizens are seeing little or no return on investments.
