They have just figured out that loading up one person with two persons work (or more) is cheaper. You don't like doing all the extra work, fine, there is a guy looking for a job that will do it for a while at least.
There is nary a time there are not 10 or so temps sitting on the other side of the building just waiting to get hired on. Kinda like an industrial age sewing shop in New York with folks in chairs lined along the wall just waiting for some one to get fed up.
