A GOP senator just proposed a Denmark-style recovery plan where the government helps pay workers' wages during the coronavirus pandemic

https://www.businessinsider.com/gop-...s-wages-2020-4

Moscow Mitch won’t let this great proposal get off the ground...

GOP Sen. Josh Hawley wants the government to help pay people's wages in a remarkable recovery proposal for the coronavirus pandemic.

"The federal government should cover 80 percent of wages for workers at any US business, up to the national median wage, until this emergency is over," he wrote in a Washington Post op-ed.

The senator said he wanted Congress to "protect every single job" in the US since the federal government effectively shut down the economy to keep the virus from spreading.

Several European countries, such as Denmark, the Netherlands, and the UK, have stepped in to pay worker's wages for the next several months of the pandemic.

This is a great analysis of how obviously off-the-rails GOP ideology is in the current situation, but it won't matter. Believers gonna believe.....

Just saw a comment and had a d'oh moment. Trump won't bail out the Post Office because if it dies, vote-by-mail goes away!

White House Seeks To Lower Farmworker Pay To Help Agriculture Industry

https://www.npr.org/2020/04/10/83207...lture-industry

So typical of Repube "thought". Kick the weak while they're down. So much for farm workers being essential to this lot.

Actually, I think this is their response to the farmers who say they will go broke if they can't hire illegals.

We’ve never backed a Democrat for president. But Trump must be defeated.

Quote:
Biden is now the presumptive Democratic nominee and he has our support. Biden has the experience, the attributes and the character to defeat Trump this fall. Unlike Trump, for whom the presidency is just one more opportunity to perfect his narcissism and self-aggrandizement, Biden sees public service as an opportunity to do right by the American people and a privilege to do so.

...

We are in a transcendent and transformative period of American history. The nation cannot afford another four years of chaos, duplicity and Trump’s reality distortion. This country is crying out for a president with a spine stiffened by tragedy, a worldview shaped by experience and a heart whose compass points to decency.

It is our hope that when the next president takes the oath of office in January, Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. will be the president for a truly united America. The stakes are too high to do anything less.
There are still a few thinking Republicans...

'Navy May Reinstate Fired Captain to Command of Roosevelt' NYT

WASHINGTON — The Navy is looking into whether it can reinstate Capt. Brett E. Crozier, who was removed from command of the carrier Theodore Roosevelt after he pleaded for more help fighting a novel coronavirus outbreak aboard his ship, Defense Department officials said on Wednesday. Adm. Michael M. Gilday, the chief of naval operations, has indicated that he may reinstate Captain Crozier, who is viewed as a hero by his crew for putting their lives above his career, officials said.

“No final decisions have been made,” Cmdr. Nate Christensen, a spokesman for the admiral, said in a statement to The Times on Wednesday. Commander Christensen added that Admiral Gilday was reviewing the findings of a preliminary investigation into the events surrounding Captain Crozier’s removal.
