There are a lot of cheapskates. Plus I was always under the impression that there is an element of sexism and age discrimination. Most waitresses tend to be on the young side and there seems to be a ceiling...I rarely see middle aged women serving. In fact the only place I have seen older people serving is Canter's, the famous deli in Los Angeles. But I do not go out a lot. In Japan it is considered an insult to tip while dining out.

I would have to agree there is an element of sexism and age discrimination. However, having been a waitress in my younger years, I know it takes the physical stamina and energy i had when I was younger and don't have now.

There aren't many jobs that don't have an element of sexism and age discrimination. Some more than others.......
