Why am I not surprised?

Until Hillary and trump are formally chosen and they have selected their running mates, polls at this stage do not mean much for the general election. Trump is a loose cannon and unpredictable and what will campaign look like? Not the current freak show. His debate performances against Hillary will be another factor, he is not going to get away with his name calling and lack of specifics. Hillary will kill Trump in debates and how is the public (read men) going to react?

I agree except for the last line.

Hill can bury him with her knowledge but I recall watching the Ray-Gun Carter debates and Ronnie seemed a dolt compared to Carter. I thought Carter won each one. I was shocked to find that Americans prefer performance over substance.

That has not changed.

thanks for the comment.

Professor, aren't you aware that the voters who put Reagan in office didn't watch the debates or care who "one." You're being shocked by Americans' preference is shocking.

Weren't there other forces in play such as sky high interest rates and the occupation of the US embassy in Eiran and subsequent failed rescue attempt.

There was the hostage deal that Bill Casey worked out with the Mullahs to hold onto the hostages until after the election. They were released on Inauguration day. And Carter was leading in the polls until the week before the election.

Indeed. Carter was in a political black hole. He was also bumming us out telling us we had a hard road ahead. The Reagan media marketing strategy blew the Dems strategy out of the water. If it weren't for the supply side BS I might have bought it.

Actually that debate was a game changer...the one where Reagan said "there you go again."

I watched it and did vote for Reagan.

Which is why I ended that comment with a question mark. Men could admire Hillary then or be intimidated by her when she makes Trump look really stupid. Women OTOH will prefer Hillary unless she does something stupid like picking on his divorces or trophy wives.
