I believe all politicians are nothing more than Popes, pushing their versions of morals and values.

You can do something about one but not the other, Was. Sounds like you're a Samuel Clemens fan.

That's right, and this is the problem with Theocracy. Grumble all you like about Democracy, at least we all have the opportunity to campaign and vote for the politicians. Only a relativiely small handful get to choose the Pope and once in, he has the job for life if he wants it. (And, NO, I don't buy the notion that it's God that chooses him. )

Not only is the central Church organisation a charity powerhouse, I believe that doesn't include the individual congregations' stuff. And there's a lot of them.
Nice thing, if we don't agree with the Catholic Church we simply don't have to join.

Wish it were that simple, but they keep sticking their beliefs down everyone's throat. And who in hell gave Catholic Charities my name and address, don't they get enough of my tax dollars from the government?

Amen to that, brother Pete.
Unfortunately, with the religion of government, they don't pass around a basket and let us decide how much we want to contribute.

Because it wouldn't work. Some would contribute nothing, no matter what the situation. And, it would most likely be those who can afford to pay the most. But, boy howdy how they'd be there, hat in hand, when the shit hits the fan. So, how much did the Bush and Paulson give the banks, now? How much did GE pay that one year?

Dave
