Dershowitz, fascist.

“Your election is in the public interest. And if a president does something which he believes will help him get elected in the public interest, that cannot be the kind of quid pro quo that results in impeachment.” - Alan Dershowitz 1/29/20

A sitting President who in his/her capacity as President says his/her election is "in the public interest" is free to do whatever s/he wants to get re-elected. That is Mussolini in spades.

And if the Republican majority in the Senate agrees with this by acquitting this President...the Legislative Branch of this government has effectively gutted itself when it comes to it's former Constitutional power and responsibility to intervene when a President has abused the power of the office.

If I haven't recommended this for reading before, I'm doing it now.

Yes. This claim of justification supports absolute dictatorship.

Just watched "The Sorrow and the Pity" and recommend as a lesson in just how easy and willingly a country accepts Fascism and Dictatorships. Sure there was an underground to a degree. Still a majority of the country played along.

The focus of the first chapters in Albright's book is on how Mussolini came to power. It's chilling how he developed this huge populist base and how the politicians in the Italian government ended up terrified of crossing him.

Sound familiar?

Alan Dershowitz Is Wrong

https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/...witz-is-wrong/

This from the journal of American conservatism, founded by Bill Buckley way back when. Dershowitz is interested only in Dershowitz, just like Donny is interested only in Donny. The perfect pair of lunatics.

impeachment hearings

Could Trump face another Impeachment trial if he is re-elected and the Democrats keep the House and win the Senate. There were many bad things that Trump has done, but these things were not included in this impeachment trial. This does not seem fair, what about the clause that says Presidents should not make money off their office or hire relatives for the cabinet, and other norms that he openly violates every day.

The House is sovereign, it can keep redoing impeachment until it gets it right. Power to the people!
