I may be a naive optimist, but I'm not going to look to an opportunist like that to define my world view. Reading his op-ed piece and seeing the quotes from his interview, I have concluded that he is not a nut. I certainly believe he doesn't understand much about constitutional law and economics, but I think he knows that he is using manipulative imagery to make a splash for his campaign. In other words, he is at least as much of a cynical opportunist as any other politician. If he wins, we will not only have another cynic in congress, but an unqualified one as well.

Eddie, ya still have me thinking on this one. It is interesting trying to determine where to draw the line between advocacy and partisanship. As I understand your comments, you aren't suggesting that we try to agree on everything, but that we don't have to be hatin' on those who disagree with us. (When my wife became a supervisor, I had to convince her that she didn't have to get mad at someone to reprimand or "counsel" them about inadequate performance.)

The disagreements are part of the fun here. From time to time, I have learned something from the disagreements - and altered my position. On the other hand, I want to state my position as well as possible, and that is going to require me to point out the errors (IMO) in the opposing position. A little biting humor helps make a point - but most here use that tool better than I do. Your main point is one that we can only wish the politicians and talking heads understood. It is OK to disagree disagreeably. (Jon Stewart once visited Crossfire and pleaded with them to set a better example of that.) I try to meet the standard you have articulated, but don't always succeed.

I used to use anger as a tool. It enabled me to accomplish twice the work and allowed me to climb up on top of things which scared me shitless...always was afraid of heights.

But when you get mad, YOU lose...every time.
