SCOTUS stomps on Ohio voter's rights

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A divided Supreme Court has put off the start of early voting in Ohio, which had been set to begin Tuesday.

The justices' order by a 5-4 vote Monday granted a request from state officials to wipe out a week in Ohio when people could both register to vote and cast ballots. The state's Republican officials have been trying to trim the number of days for early voting and restrict weekend and evening hours.

The moves prompted a lawsuit from black churches and civil rights groups that the new rules would make it difficult for residents to vote and disproportionately affect low-income and black voters.

Sumbitches. How these conservative judges justify 'screwing the vote' boggles the mind.

In most civilized countries citizens are guaranteed at least four hours in which to vote during the time the polls are opened. Their employers dare not say no to that guaranteed right.

There are all sorts of benefits that citizens of most civilized countries have that citizens of this country don't have.

How much credibility do you think we have to instill democracy in other countries?

Oregon and Washington are entirely vote by mail now. We don't have any polling places to go to.

Seems to me it's the way to do it. Question...any measurable effect on voter turn-out? Particularly compared with other states in Presidential elections.

-edit- I think I just answered my own question. State by state lists puts Oregon pretty much in the middle of the pack in percentage of VEP voter turnout.
