Much as I like Robert Heinlein, Asimov said it best.

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

Made my Instacart / Sprouts order, picked it up, popped (literally) next door to Kaiser, expecting long lines in the drive-thru vax setup. Nope, two cars in front of me, in and out in five mins. Got the high-octane (senior) dose.

Given his alleged libertarianism, I'm flabbergasted!

No one is perfect, even Herr Heinlein but the roads must roll.

Actually there is a lot of institutionalism in Heinlein's fiction between 1948-1968.
Space Cadet, Starman Jones, The Star Beast all have rugged individuals who act against the backdrop of bureaucratic institutions, mostly governmental and military.

Starship Troopers is about a military that nobody wants to be a part of that protects a society that is unaware of their sacrifice. The Starship Troopers know death and terrible conditions all in the name of keeping an uncaring Earth alive and well.

The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress is a pretty conventional story about revolutionaries who have no choice but to rebel against earth because they will run out of water if they don't change how trade is undertaken between the Earth and the Moon.

I read 13 Heinlein books this summer. You can tell he loved the Navy in the way he described the various military hierarchies in his novels.

He also signed a paged in Galaxy magazine in 1969 supporting the contiuned involvement of the US in the Vietnam war.
