It really was a terrific show. I'm always amazed at the brilliance and influence of autodidacts in history. Like Leonardo Da Vinci, Franklin was one of the most brilliant men of his time. Both were self-taught.

Persons of his capability can be limited by formal teaching. But who knows what he would have done if he'd grown up in an academic library, on self study with a panel of advisors....

Don't know if you saw the first episode, but Franklin was highly critical of the education received by the upper crust at Harvard as far back as the early 1700's. In effect, he called it a finishing school for the rich. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Franklin was recognized as one of the most brilliant men alive. I think he read the French novel from which we got "the pursuit of happiness." He was right about education. Pretty sure he'd see our current system as not good.

Wondering if Burns will touch on our demand for an MP or two was just a delaying tactic so the army being formed to face the rebel crushing BEF the king was sending had time to coalesce, and the logistics needed would have willing providers. Payment to be made later. The leaders of the rebellion knew the 13 united colonies could beat the Brits in a war of attrition and the continent would be theirs for the taking. More for all. Franklin played the key role in this. My favorite founder.
