Yes! Fantastic post, DQ!

I had a discussion about monopolies with a young co-worker today. I used the auto industry and the "Big Three" through the 20th century as an example of how the lack of competition leads to many problems. I also explained the crucial need for balance in the labor markets. Yes, we need the rich, yes we need people willing to do some of the lower wage jobs, but we also need a strong, healthy and financially vibrant workforce. Disposable income in the hands of millions of gainfully employed workers is what drives demand and business needs demand to meet in order to grow. Without it, we have nothing.

I held up a can of coffee and asked him; "Think about it. Most people buy coffee, rich, poor, middle class....Makes little difference, right? This is why we sell so much of it. Now, imagine if only millionaires and above could afford to buy our coffee. How much coffee do you think we would sell? I'm thinking most of us would be unemployed."

It was wonderful to watch the light come on.
