You & me, both, Sandy. I used to keep change in my truck and they would steal it. I started locking it up, and the assholes vandalized the truck, (Keyed it all up.) Now, I just don't leave anything in it, and the truck is so old and beat up, I don't worry about anyone stealing it. The Challenger stays under the cover, or in the garage when I can make room. Funny (good) thing is, they never mess with the house. And I've got $12,000+ worth of audio gear in here.
I know what you mean about the "welfare housing". I have four large "section 8" apartment buildings two blocks from here. It's usually fairly quiet. But, last night there was a bunch of shouting, gunshots and sirens coming from over there. It happens enough that it doesn't even make it into the news anymore.
Frickin' crazy.
Dave

Here too. Isn't that despicable. They should beat those guys and hang them.
I 'generally' lock my doors but don't worry too much about it.

Do you lock your doors?
only if i'm gone for more than a day or so.
i live in an almost rural apt complex and there's usually people around to help keep an eye on things. we also have weekend resident nighttime security patrols that help do the same.

Figgered I set myself up for that one. Truth is, she keeps it unlocked when I work at home for a day.

Can't be much or I would have been stolen years ago.

Always, any time of day or night. Doesn't matter if I'm home or away, the doors are locked.
Mostly because I don't like when people do the knock-and-enter thing, or knock, open the door, and yell in "is anybody home...?". Both seem fairly common practice in this neck of the woods.

Pretty close to what happens to me in the porcelain library. Man can't read the newspaper in peace.

Yes, even when I'm home. We got a fellow in the area who likes to let himself in uninvited. You walk into the kitchen, and he'll be there sitting at the table. Don't give 'im money when he asks, either, or he'll bug ya.
I've never met him, personally. The above info was from a neighbor, so I don't take my chances.
