populist rage on the right is aimed at the educated

"populist rage on the right is aimed at the educated, not the wealthy"

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/21/op...&ref=frankrich

Interesting. I never thought of this but indeed it is true. The tea party is indeed really against the educated and hence the Palin fever.

What causes this is my question?
Thoughts?

"They think you're stupid. They think they know how to run your life better than you do."-G. Beck

"I'm not a witch, I'm just like you."-C. O'Donnell

"You don't want a girl that's smarter than you, Dave. They're impossible to control." -Frank Lloyd

In the first quote;
Those "Ivy League intellectuals" are arrogant know-it-alls that are trying to use trickery to manipulate your mind. But, of course, you know you're smarter than that. You're not going to fall for it. You're going to do the smart thing and come to me, because I would never treat you like you're stupid and try to manipulate you.
After all, my religious beliefs prevent me from being dishonest. I just want to give you a heads up on what those evil "intellectuals" are up to.........................

In the second quote;
See, I'm just a soccer mom, like you. I have no sinister agenda. I'm just concerned about the future for our beautiful freckle faced American children. Those nasty, immoral, fag loving, Atheist, baby killer liberals lied again and called me a witch. See how they are? Gee whiz.

In the third quote;
Okay, so you never heard of Frank Lloyd. He's a mechanic that I work with. But, I think what he said kinda explains the "Look at me, I'm just a run of the mill, average schmuck like you." populist approach that the right wing powers that be have adopted. You court a voting base you know you can manipulate. You can use fear, religion, revisionist history, greed, excessive flag-waiving pseudo patriotism, you can harken back to the ever elusive "good old days" when everyone was satisfied, happy, holding hands and singing "Kumbaya" and there was peace in the land......To cut it short, every obvious trick in the book. And it will work like a charm.

But, if you try it on educated people who've read the same book you did? You won't get very far. They know what you're doing.

Dave

It is true that through history the educated elite have caused a great deal of trouble when they thought they knew best.

Shakespeare knew better. 'I found beauty in love and truth in the working man.'

I'll just keep clinging to my guns and religion, thank you.

Shakespeare was a knuckle dragger too?

I'll be damned!!!

Besides, the educated elite have been running the world for years, and it's pretty much FUBAR at the moment. At least economically.

I suppose that could be blamed on the great unwashed, who refuse to get in line as do as their told. But the last time I looked, if I don't play ball they'll take away all of my chips at the point of a gun.

Could be this, could be that.

That point of a gun thing stinks, for 'free' men no?

For the knuckledraggers, you could always count on Willy to relate some dirty joke and show some, um, boob

My apologies to any female who might be offended, but it's true, and I don't think we have any anyway!

Funny thing is, I've noticed that the "ruling elite" appear to be much like everyone else.

They've just managed to climb to the top of the greasy pole.

maybe the more one knows is a good thing?

maybe it improves the odds of making decisions that have the desired results?

Depends on what you know, not how much, I'd say.

well if you know 1+1=2 but the question is How much is 2+2 your screwed, no?

In any case this whole anti intellectuality thing the right has going on is not positive. In fact the notion that it's kool to be a jerk is also insulting to those who have struggled to better themselves through education.
