Personally, I am not against anyone having equal rights. My problem is that in my eyes, when "equal" rights are given to a group of people by the government, they seem to have a way of morphing into "special" rights. Face it, if a black guy, a Hispanic guy, a gay guy, a woman, and a white guy came to give me a bid on a contract, if all bids were reasonably similar and the question came down to awarding the contract based on my personal opinion, the white guy would be the only one I wouldn't be afraid of refusing.

I suppose institutionalized discrimination does have consequences, sometimes negative, when efforts are made to move forward out of it.

I've personally been negatively impacted by affirmative action, but I still see the need for it (unfortunately). It's a fine line deciding when something like this is no longer necessary.
