Another Obamyth Busted - Deportations

"A closer examination shows that immigrants living illegally in most of the continental U.S. are less likely to be deported today than before Obama came to office, according to immigration data."

"On the other side of the ledger, the number of people deported at or near the border has gone up — primarily as a result of changing who gets counted in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency's deportation statistics."

"If all removals were tallied, the total sent back to Mexico each year would have been far higher under those previous administrations than it is now.

The shift in who gets tallied helped the administration look tough in its early years but now may be backfiring politically."

So, a change in record-keeping that started late in the Bush administration is what is helping Obama look tough on illegals / deportation. Poof - another Obamyth busted. The real meat of the story is right here:

"Expulsions of people who are settled and working in the United States have fallen steadily since his first year in office, and are down more than 40% since 2009."

Hispanics are trying to pressure Obama to ease up on deportations.
However I do not see this possible. If you are in the interior you are by and
large safe unless you are really a "criminal".

If you are illegal and you are driving without a permit you asking to be deported.
It goes without saying...kidnappers, gang bangers, human traffickers etc.

A lot of vicious youngsters, from places like El Salvador, need to be deported.
They were hardened at home and came to America with the same toughness.

They have started counting border turnarounds as deportations that they never did before. This is boosting the numbers up for Obama when in fact it's manipulation of numbers.

All the more reason for comprehensive immigration reform.

We do need something but no cutting the line.

I know quite a few people that have put the effort in and are proud to be citizens. They are against this amnesty proposed by the dems.

I'm all for it if it includes controlling our borders, providing entry only to those who apply and are granted such entry, and deporting illegals who have a criminal history or are engaged in criminal activity.

In the meantime, it's apparent that no one inside the beltway is at all serious about immigration reform / border control.

Fixed it for you. We are but 25 miles from DC and see what is going on not what Fox says is going on

Odd that you would say this. It appears to me that inside the beltway Repubs and Dems are both busy trying to get the Dream Act pushed through, even if they do it in small pieces at a time.

Immigration reform containing all of those elements would still be opposed by the GOP. They've fostered resentment in their base towards immigrants and now have to kowtow to these nativists. Moreover, the industries that depend on a cheap docile workforce (agriculture, construction, hospitality) don't want reform either.
