Hmmm, I would say use the 5100 pre section to see what you think but IIRC that does not have the separating jumper setup. The C28 is real nice once recapped but is colored a bit like all early SS preamps are. But then your 5100 would pretty much have the same sound signature regardless and you already have that.
I really wish I had something that had a remote that let's me adjust the sound level from where my butt is planted rather than having to get up and guess. That will be a requirement in the next one I spend real money on. Carl
