You mean the fact that the US has more people behind bars, in terms of both raw numbers and as a percentage of the population, than any other country in the world? You mean the fact that we've turned incarceration into a profit-making (profit-driven) private industry? You mean stuff like that?

As Boreas pointed out, incarceration has become an important tool of capitalism. It is certainly dangerous to the society when deprivation of liberty becomes a profitable venture.
