This has been said before in a number of threads, but maybe it bears saying again. The problem with cops these days is that regardless of the specifics of the situation, they've clearly been told that any act of non-compliance automatically approves their use of deadly force. This is no different from the John Wrana situation...maybe worse in some ways.
The kid is drunk and depressed. Maybe he wants a suicide by cop, but why TF be so quick to accomodate him? Well he's gonna kill himself if we don't act and riddle him with automatic weapons fire so he can't kill himself. Most importantly though, we don't want to get sued as a unit and individually for not doing anything. So we fill the poor depressed schmuck fulla lead. If he's alone with a knife and acting crazy walk the fuck out of the room. Get a mental health professional in there to try to talk him down.
We saw the video of that good cop. The one who back away from the suicidal guy with the weapon until the guy caved in and surrendered.
Nah...comply or die. WTF is wrong with these guys?
Y'know, when there's a possible incident at a convenience store or any other public place and the silent alarm goes off, these guys aren't going in there. They're standing out in front of the place or relaxing in the cruiser until they know it's safe for them to go in. Not safe for the people inside...safe for the cops. But when they know the person is armed with a kitchen knife or a shoehorn they're storming in with At-15's blazing.
That's just great.
