I'm not sure they can actually get him for anything but lying to the cops. And I have a basic objection to it being fine for the cops to lie to suspects, but a felony for the suspect to lie to the cops.

What is not surprising is that after I post this, you're going to defend worthless scum like Detective James McCready. McCready had 17 year old Marty Tankleff locked in an interview room without legal representation and subjected to hours of hostile interrogation. After finding his mother dead and his father clinging to life, McCready had Tankleff in the room for over 6 brutal hours...near the end, McCready left the room, came back several minutes later and told Tankleff that his father briefly regained consciousness before he died and said, "Marty did it." Tankleff broke down and confessed to a something he did not do.

McCready was asked about this by "48 Hours" correspondent Erin Moriarty. “You lied to him. That’s all right to do?,” Moriarty asked McCready. “The United States Supreme Court says it is,” McCready replied.

Tankleff's defense team has strong evidence that the murder was actually committed by men hired by Seymour Tankleff's former business partner Jerry Steuermann, who later disappeared and faked his own death. Turns out that Steuermann had regularly contracted with a construction company owned as a side business by, guess who...Detective James McCready.

I have a basic objection to scumbag coppers on the take, torturing a confession out of a 17 year old kid who had just found his parents slaughtered in their home.
