My understanding of the expression 'broken femur' specifically means a break very close to the hip rather than a break elsewhere along the thigh bone. Also I was 10 years old and was hit by a truck. The impact threw me 25 feet through the air as witnesses said the truck was well in excess of the 30MPH limit. one month in traction and another in a cast all the way from my armpits down the right leg. I have had it with hospitals.

Cracked a few ribs as well.

That would be a break to the proximal femur. When my knee exploded the medical description of the injury was multiple fractures of the distal left femur and proximal tibia/fibula. A break anywhere along the length of the femur is a broken femur.

Well then I was lucky and did not have any peripatetic difficulties afterward.

Multiple trips to Europe and Israel and emigrating from Canada to the US is pretty peripatetic.
